The Problem

Youths are Africa’s most prominent resource. Africa’s youth populace is quickly developing and expected to increase to about 830 million by 2050 (Africa Development Bank, 2016). If properly harnessed, this increase in the working age population could lead to an increased productivity and a great potential in achieving transformation and sustainable development across the continent. Today, most youths in Africa do not have stable economic opportunities. . The problem is not just unemployment but underemployment, which peaks at just over half of youth in the labor force in African countries.

The Solution

The aim of Engineering and Technology Against Poverty in Africa (IID) Strategy 2022-2025 is to create 3000 jobs and reach over 15000 Africans by equipping youths with hands-on technical skills in engineering and technology thereby driving inclusive economic growth across the continent and helping them to realize their full economic potential. The expected long-term outcomes are increased innovative solutions and an expanded economic opportunity for African youth, thereby leading to an improvement in other areas of their lives.

We have two main objectives of achieving these;

Equipping African youths with technical and soft skills that match the engineering and technology labour market needs thereby addressing supply challenges in human capital development.

Fostering better connections between employers and young Africans addressing industry linkage challenges and as well develop their entrepreneurship skills to create more jobs.
